Scandinavian Winter Start

It’s that time again, snow is on the ground in much of the Northern world, and I’m back to Scandinavia starting out a new racing season!

I left my home training base of Craftsbury, VT on November 16th, after a great summer and fall of training. Maybe more on that later, but for now it’s time to focus on the present moments. The first stop of this European tour was Beitostolen, Norway, where the whole US Ski Team and Period 1 World Cup US starters were convening for a training camp and warm-up races.

Path to Seefeld: World Cup P1

The announcement came out today about the Seefeld 2019 World Championships team, and I’m very excited to be part of a strong US team!

The Broken Arrow Skyrace experience

Last week I was out in California for a running race, a brief departure from ski training in Vermont. The Broken Arrow Skyrace is relatively new as far as races go, this being only its 3rd year, but it has a lot going for it and was an excellent event!

Beginning the Olympic experience

Being in South Korea, at the 2018 Winter Olympics, is an amazing experience so far. Not one that can be easily distilled into a string of words and images. If feels like I’ll be processing and absorbing these days, these memories for a long time to come. Here’s just the start, a look at my first week or so in South Korea.

Nationals 2018

US Nationals brought the ski racing community up to Anchorage, AK in early January 2018. We contested 4 races – skate sprint, classic sprint, 10km/15km skate, and 20km/30km classic mass start.

When a frustrating weekend of ski racing STILL makes you remember how much you like to race, things are ok! But from here, I’m going to be climbing up!

Snippets of November

November took me from Vermont to Quebec back to Vermont, and now out west to Montana. The start of the race season has arrived, and tomorrow will be the skate sprint Supertour at West Yellowstone.

Mountain running Worlds – Italy, part 2

It was an awesome experience to be part of the US mountain running team for World Championships! Selected based on US Mountain Running Championships in June, the team convened on July 27th in Premana, Italy. Our single race would be held on July 30th, starting off with junior 1-lap races in the morning, followed by the senior women and senior men with 2 laps of a 6.5k loop, for a total of 13k.

Italy, part 1

The first half of my trip to Italy has flown by in a whirlwind of activities! I could have happily spent my whole trip at any one of the places I’ve visited, but that just means I’ll need to come back to see more of each area at a later time. My trip started on July 19th, and I’ll be back to the US on July 31st.

Now that I’m in Premana, Italy, and actually taking a little down time, I have the opportunity to reflect on the first half of the trip. Premana is the venue for the Mountain Running World Championships, which is coming up tomorrow!
